Aliens at Bac Dubh?

We found this bizarre stuff at Bac Dubh yesterday - looking like something from another world! That's what people in years gone by thought too, hence its name, 'star jelly', because they thought it had appeared from outer space.

However, some investigation revealed something even more amazing. It's actually the reproductive organs from frogs (you can see their eggs too), which have been predated, in this case probably by buzzards. They pick out the reproductive organs and don't eat them, because they swell up in moisture and would bulk up so much in thr predator's stomach that it would harm or even kill them. The remains have soaked up the rain instead. Isn't nature amazing!
